The Hague is working on solutions for recycling more plastic waste. This is why the municipality is taking part in the European project PlastiCity. Companies can separate their plastic and have it collected by an electric cargo bike.

The collected plastic will be processed (including being washed and shredded) so that it is ready to be used again. Specialised recycling companies will turn this plastic into new products. Businesses in The Hague will then be able to purchase these products again. To make sure these steps are carried our properly, PlastiCity is constructing a plastic hub in 2022. This is a central place where different types of plastic waste will be collected and processed.

Session 1

Plastic Coalition The Hague

13.00 - 14.30

PlastiCity established a Plastic Hub in collaboration with entrepreneurs from The Hague for the processing of locally collected plastics. This workshop focuses on strengthening cooperation between key players in the plastics value chain in The Hague. For example, we split up into subgroups to determine who has what added value in the plastic community. We then zoom in more deeply into the question of how we are going to organize (online) knowledge sharing and networking. In short: this workshop offers new business opportunities and opportunities within the 'Plastic Coalition' in The Hague!

Session 2

PlastiCity meets Upcycle your Waste

15.15 - 16.15

Both Interreg 2 Seas programmes are focussed on urban areas to conduct pilot to keep our resources into our ecosystem. First, both projects will be briefly introduced. This session is a great opportunity for pilot partners of both projects to meet and to learn from each other.

Resourceful Cities

What if you could have all kinds of practices concerning circular economy in the same spot? One location where waste prevention, reuse, repair and recycling meet. A place to learn and work with the transition to circularity. That is the role of an Urban Resource Centre.

The Resourceful Cities project works on developing and organizing Centres like this in The Hague, working via the European URBACT programme. These centres aim to have a positive economic, environmental and social impact in the city.

Session 1

Urban Local Group

13.00 - 14.30

The Urbact Local Group (ULG) will hold a final meeting to commit itself to the Integrated Action Plan of Resourceful Cities. The actions of this plan will be finalized and the road ahead will be discussed. With this plan in hand, the ULG presents the steps needed to support the development of an innovative Urban Resource Centre within the city of The Hague. Please note: this session is for members of the ULG only!

Session 2

Urban Resource Centres

15.15 - 16.15

How would an innovative urban resource centre look like in The Hague? How can local entrepreneurs best be involved? What opportunities are there for entrepreneurs to participate within the resource centre? How can we create viable circular business cases together? What role should the municipality take in the process? These are some of the questions that will be explored during this interactive session. Local entrepreneurs are encouraged to envision their own participation within the Urban Resource Centre and discuss any opportunities or challenges they perceive.

Upcycle your Waste

Upcycle Your Waste supports small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with a free programme to improve their insight in their own waste stream, increase their knowledge on (legislative) opportunities for circularity, and by helping them create collaborations to increase the circularity of their waste system. To reach the educative goals of the project Upcycle Your Waste has created outputs with information and the Upcycle Academy has been created. Via this academy SMEs can graduate courses that grant them a certificate, showing their knowledge on circular economy.

Session 1

Upcycle your Waste Academy

13.00 - 14.30

Where to start with circular waste management in your company? Join the UYW Academy!

Through four modules you will gain the knowledge that is needed to get started. During this session we will guide you through the academy and emphezise the adventages of the learning material.

Session 2

Meet the market

15.15 - 16.15

We invite waste owners and upcyclers to come to this session. During an interactive session we will explore the potential matches between waste owners and upcyclers. These are the  first building blocks towards business cases within the Upcycle Your Waste projects. We especially invite SME's from the ZKD-business park area to join this session.
