Southend-on-Sea

Southend on Sea is often listed as one of the ‘greenest’ cities in the UK. Located on the seafront, Southend-on-Sea is committed to minimising the impact of plastics on the environment and the ocean. While household waste is recycled widely, plastic recycling for business waste is still developing.

Our focus

Creating a financially viable recycling industry, as well as creating capacity and incentives for recycling technologies to develop are focus points for the region. The PlastiCity project increases awareness for plastic recycling, as well as selecting the right technologies and locations to set up a circular value chain.

PlastiCity Design Workshop Part 2

9 March 2022 @ The Hive

The second event will be hosted at The Hive on 9th March. This will be an opportunity to discuss and develop ideas, meet others engaged in the project and build new partnerships. Together we will explore the different plastic types used and collected in Southend, before considering the various techniques that can be used to turn this plastic waste into new products. 3D Filaprint will also be demonstrating how waste plastics can be used to create 3D printing filament and exploring the opportunities for sustainable manufacture through 3D printing.
